Eunice Kennedy Shriver was a prominent American philanthropist and a member of the Kennedy family. Through her marriage to Sargent Shriver, she also became a member of the Shriver family. Eunice was the sister of President John F. Kennedy, Senators Robert F. Kennedy and Edward Kennedy, and Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith. She is best known for founding the Special Olympics in 1968, a global sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
