Irina Bokova is a Bulgarian politician and diplomat who served as the Director-General of UNESCO from 2009 to 2017. Throughout her career, she has held various significant positions in the Bulgarian government, including two terms as a member of the National Parliament. Bokova also served as Deputy Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. She represented Bulgaria as an ambassador to France and Monaco, and was Bulgaria's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO.
