Jacques Chaban-Delmas was a prominent French Gaullist politician who held several significant positions throughout his career. He served as Prime Minister of France under President Georges Pompidou from 1969 to 1972. Chaban-Delmas was also the Mayor of Bordeaux for an impressive 48 years, from 1947 to 1995. As well as being a long-time deputy for the Gironde département between 1946 and 1997, he was a key figure in French politics for several decades.
