Kim Jong-il was a North Korean politician and dictator who served as the second supreme leader of North Korea from 1994 until his death in 2011. He succeeded his father, Kim Il-sung, and continued the family's authoritarian rule. Kim Jong-il was posthumously declared an Eternal Leader of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK). His reign was marked by economic hardship and international isolation.
