Louis Farrakhan is an American religious leader who has led the Nation of Islam (NOI) since 1981. The NOI combines black nationalism with Islamic teachings. Before his involvement with the NOI, Farrakhan was a calypso singer and violinist. He served as a minister in NOI mosques during the 1950s. Farrakhan is a controversial figure known for his antisemitic and anti-white statements.
