Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum was an influential Emirati royal and politician who played a vital role in the development of the United Arab Emirates. He served as the second Vice President, first and third Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai. Maktoum was Prime Minister from 1971 to 1979 and again from 1990 to 2006. As the Ruler of Dubai from 1990 to 2006, he oversaw significant economic growth and development in the emirate. He was succeeded by his brother, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
