Morihiro Hosokawa, born in 1938, is a Japanese politician who served as prime minister of Japan from 1993 to 1994. He led an eight-party coalition government, marking the first time since 1955 that a government was not headed by the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Hosokawa's brief but significant term as prime minister represented a shift in Japanese politics. Since then, he has also become known as a ceramic artist.
