Sellapan Ramanathan, commonly known as S. R. Nathan, was a Singaporean civil servant, diplomat, and politician. He served as the sixth president of Singapore from 1999 to 2011, making him the longest-serving president in the country's history. Before becoming president, Nathan held key positions in the public service, including roles in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Security and Intelligence Division (SID). He was also Singapore's High Commissioner to Malaysia and Ambassador to the United States.
