Sabine Bergmann-Pohl is a German doctor and politician who played a significant role in the reunification of Germany. As president of the Volkskammer of East Germany in 1990, she served as the interim head of state until the country's merger with West Germany. She was the youngest, only female, and last head of state of East Germany. Following reunification, she served in Chancellor Helmut Kohl's government.
