Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is a Ugandan politician and former military officer who has been the President of Uganda since 1986. Museveni was born in Ntungamo, Uganda and studied political science at the University of Dar es Salaam. He initiated the University Students' African Revolutionary Front and later joined the failed invasion of Uganda against Idi Amin's dictatorship in 1972. He came to power after a protracted guerrilla war and has since been a dominant figure in Ugandan politics.
