Abimael Guzmán, also known as Chairman Gonzalo, was a Peruvian Maoist guerrilla leader. He founded the organization Communist Party of Peru – Shining Path (PCP-SL) in 1969. Guzmán led a violent rebellion against the Peruvian government for decades, seeking to overthrow the existing order and establish a communist state. His capture in 1992 marked a turning point in the conflict, and he was sentenced to life imprisonment for terrorism and treason.
