Lai Ching-te, also known as William Lai, is a Taiwanese politician, physician, and nephrologist. He is the current president of the Republic of China, having assumed office in 2024. Lai is a member of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and has served as the party's chairman since 2023. Prior to his presidency, he held various political positions in Taiwan.
