Mohamed Hussein Tantawi Soliman was an Egyptian field marshal and politician who served as the commander-in-chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces. Following the ousting of President Hosni Mubarak in 2011, he became the de facto head of state as chairman of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. Tantawi held this position until the inauguration of Mohamed Morsi as president in 2012.
