Vladimír Mečiar is a Slovak former politician who served as the prime minister of Slovakia in three separate terms. His first term lasted from June 1990 to May 1991, followed by a second from June 1992 to March 1994, and a final term from December 1994 to October 1998. Mečiar was also the leader of the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), which was a populist political party in Slovakia.
