Manfred Gerlach was a German jurist and politician. He was a long-time leader of the East German Liberal Democratic Party. Gerlach served as Chairman of the Council of State and was thus the head of state of East Germany from December 1989 to April 1990. His tenure coincided with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany.
