Marielle Franco was a Brazilian politician, sociologist, feminist, socialist, and human rights activist who served as a city councillor of the Municipal Chamber of Rio de Janeiro for the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL). She was a vocal advocate for marginalized communities, particularly Black women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and residents of favelas. Franco was known for her work against police brutality and for her commitment to social justice and equality. Her life was tragically cut short by her assassination.
